Good Deeds in Virginia Beach, Virginia (VA)

Jessica's Good Deed

I made a resolution to make a difference in 2011 and help people. I own my own hair business, and signed up for Locks of Love, and also offered cancer patients free haircuts when their hair starts to thin from radiantion treatment, so they didn't have to shave it off right away. I also started volunteering for the National MS Society and the American Cancer Society.

A friend of mine fell on hard times, like a lot of people. She got a new job, but didn't have money for "office job" clothes. I didn't have money to spare because I'm strugging too, but I cleaned out my closet and gave her a bunch of clothes, shoes and purses, to get her started at her new job. I also did her hair for free because I'm a hairdresser. She was so touched and grateful. It was nice to be able to help out a friend even a little. Especially this time of year.

I shop often on ebay, and when using paypal, you have the option of donating to your favorite charity every time you place an order. So I donate to the March of Dimes when I place an order. It's convenient and everyone should do it. Every little bit helps!

I was walking to the bus stop yesterday to catch the route home from work. The temp. was in the 90s all day and I saw a man in a wheelchair trying to make his way down the siedewalk. When I caught up to him, I asked him if he would like me to push him along being that I was walking in the same direction. He replied "Yes sir." I pushed him 2 and a half blocks to the bus stop, where he happened to be going. We had nice conversation and he told me that I made his day. It was nice helping out that gentleman. #WIN!

I own my own hair business and have a friend that's really ill, who lives in Elizabeth city. I live in Virginia Beach and work 2 jobs but drove to her house to visit her with some baked goods and do her hair to try to cheer her up. It meant a lot to her, and made me happy to do something nice for a friend. That's what friends are for.

Someone at the office I work at brought some zucchinis in from their garden. No one else wanted the huge one, so I took it home and made zucchini bread to bring in for everyone at the office.

I've noticed a lot of homeless people around lately and my heart goes out to them, because the economy has affected everyone in some way. I can't afford to give money, but I keep bottled water and pre packaged snacks in my car all the time so that if I see any homeless people I can give them some water and a snack at least. Every little bit helps!

I own my own hair business. My friend had been really down on her luck, financially and was depressed. She needed a pick me up. So I did her hair for free and took her out to dinner.

I always ask everyone at work how they're doing or if they're doing okay when they're looking sad. well one of my coworkers came up to me the other day day and said jess thank you for caring. i guess taking 2 seconds out of my day to hello really does make a difference.

I walked around Virginia Beach at the oceanfront and my friend and I picked up trash for a few hours. It was freezing cold but very rewarding! All that plastic and Styrofoam didn\'t get into the ocean! Less trash for the Pacific Trash Vortex :) happy heart.
